As Women’s History Month in the United States comes to a close, we wanted to offer our own contribution to this awesome celebration of females by giving a shout out to our one-and-only founder, Lilly Cabrera. As the eponymous entrepreneur who saw the potential of logistics way back in the 1990s, we would be remiss not to share some of Ms. Lilly’s incredible contributions to the business world.
Lilly Cabrera’s story epitomizes the well-loved tale of the American Dream. She risked everything to travel to America with her three children in 1979, leaving her native Peru behind. She worked long hours and eventually earned an administrative job with a freight forwarding company. This position ultimately launched her career, and in 1990 founded LILLY + Associates, steadfastly pushing through the obstacles of a male-dominated industry to grow a thriving business with an international presence.
Ever since Ronald Reagan first approved “Women’s History Week,” in 1981, Americans have dedicated this time to celebrating the struggles and triumphs of women who have achieved greatness. Congress soon realized that a week wasn’t nearly enough time to celebrate all the successful women in this country, and before long they approved an extension through all of March.
Here at LILLY, we work hard to support women’s goals all year round – and we put our money where our mouth is. In fact, over 70% of our employees are women, and we’d say it’s working out pretty well. Happy National Women’s History Month!
